Walter's 3-in-1 Prototyp TMD cuts thread milling times
The Prototyp TMD is said to halve internal thread generation times by offering a 3-in-1 capability: it can drill, countersink and mill in a single operation.
Available from Walter GB, Bromsgrove, it is designed to produce threads from M6 to M16 and up to two times diameter (for both through hole and blind threads), and is supplied with either a TAX coating for cast iron or NHC coating for non-ferrous metals.
The tool has three milling/cutting edges to support high feed rates, and a special spiral flute design with a 27° helix that, along with coolant feeding centrally through three Y-shaped outlets, aids chip transport.
The Prototyp TMD is also suitable for second operations on magnesium and copper alloys.
