Walter tool range offers swarfless tapping

Walter's range of universal swarfless roll-type taps incorporates a special coating and geometry to enable threading of both blind and through holes in high tensile materials, as well as aluminium and copper alloys.

The Walter Prototyp Protodyn S ECO plus series of taps, available from Walter GB of Bromsgrove, includes the S ECO Plus, a tool that provides a universal solution on every material up to a tensile strength of 1,200 N/mm². The tap incorporates a TiN coating in order to extend the life of the tool, as well as prevent cold welding of the material and any built-up edge when machining materials such as high carbon steels or highly abrasive aluminium alloys. The coating's low friction also reduces the lubricant required and produces an even tool wear. As the tools are also available with radial coolant feed and lubrication grooves, deeper threads up to four times diameter can be produced and, with the latest polygonal form and chamfer geometry, shorter periods of initial tool running-in are required. Threads produced using Walter Prototyp Protodyn S ECO plus tools will have higher static and dynamic tensile strength than a cut thread due to the work hardening of both the faces and root of the thread during the forming process.
