Walter’s Point Cool can double turning insert life

Point Cool coolant jet guiding insert geometry for rough turning ISO M and ISO S stainless steels is said to enable the latest RM5 geometry insert from Walter GB to boost tool life by up to 100%.

The system relies on a pair of deep, parallel coolant channels conveying the coolant close to the cutting edge, directly beneath the chip.

Walter’s RM5 geometry combines design features such as double positive macro-geometry with the company’s Tiger.tec Silver coating, which features a PVD-Al2O3 heat shield. This is said to reduce crater wear, the formation of built-up edge and notching.

RM5 is available in four different grades and five basic shapes. Although the insert can be used with standard ISO toolholders on any lathe with standard coolant supply, RM5 achieves optimum results when used with Walter’s precision toolholders featuring both rake and flank face cooling.
