Walter GB has the added F5138 porcupine cutter to its Blaxx range of shoulder mills. The F5138 is available in diameters of 40 to 80 mm diameters and in two cutting lengths per diameter. It employs Tiger.tec Silver four-edged indexable inserts in cutting materials that are suitable for processing steel, cast iron, stainless steel and difficult to machine materials.
Like its F5041 and F5141 stablemates, says Walter, the Blaxx F5138 shoulder mill features a high gloss black finish against wear and corrosion. Stability provided by the precise radial and axial location of inserts provides stability and minimises vibration to the benefit of surface finish and tool life.
The Tiger.tec Silver inserts' surface treatment balances toughness and hardness to reduce in-cycle machining stresses in both wet and dry applications. The CVD-Al2O3 grade coating counters thermal shock that can lead to cracking at the cutting edge and minimises tribochemical wear on the flank face.
