Vollmer boosts QXD 250 performance with Vpulse EDM generator

Grinding and eroding machine specialist Vollmer's QXD 250 can produce made to measure PCD tipped (polycrystalline diamond) tools up to 30% faster than previously possible thanks to its Vpulse EDM generator technology. With targeted eroding impulses, the Vpulse EDM can either increase the surface fineness by a factor of two or more, or increase the speed of the tool production, explains Vollmer.

Apart from the Vpulse EDM eroding generator, the Vollmer universal machine also offers a simultaneous track interpolation in six CNC controlled axes. As a result of the increased tool track distance and swivel range, PCD tools with diameters of 320 mm and lengths of 250 mm can be precisely processed. In a single clamping fixture, the QXD 250 measures, grinds, erodes and polishes diamond tools as a combined process. Vollmer automation technology allows unmanned 24-hour production, with loading and emptying of the workpiece reservoir taking place simultaneously and automatically. The integrated toolchanger for up to six eroding, grinding or polishing discs makes the processing of different workpiece variants possible
