Universal Robots launches UR3 tabletop robot

Universal Robot’s UR3 is a compact, tabletop robot that weighs only 11 kg but offers a payload of 3 kg, 360° rotation on all wrist joints and infinite rotation on the end joint.

The UR3 is described as an optimal assistant in assembly, polish, glue and screw applications. A big demand is anticipated as being automation in confined environments. With the UR3, Universal Robots says it can now fit a 6-axis robot into lines where erecting large safety enclosures would not be feasible.

UR3 has 15 adjustable safety settings. One of these is the company's force sensing technology that enables the UR3 to limit contact forces should the robot collide with an employee. The robot has a default force sensing of 150 N, but can be set to stop when it encounters a force as low as 50 N. The UR3 offers 0.1 mm repeatability.
