Two-axis module for special-purpose machines

The Triax 2 module is a 3-axis slide module launched by Somex to expand its range of multi-axis machining units. It has been developed from the successful Triax 3 unit, but with more compact dimensions to provide a precise self-contained, high performance CNC 3-axis machining centre within a very small envelope. It is suitable for a wide range of machining applications on transfer machines and other special-purpose configurations for the production of precision, micro-mechanical components typically required for the automotive and aeronautical industries. General purpose work as required for security locks, plumbing components and the PVC/aluminium joinery markets can also be accommodated. The Triax module can be mounted either vertically or horizontally and is designed mainly for use with the Max 5B machining spindle which covers a hole drilling range from 1 to 25 mm diameter. This can be fitted with Indramat ISO motor, front or rear mounted with 4 by 90° adjustable housing and suitable for 230/460V 50 Hz supply; 1450 rpm (0.55 kW) or 2900 rpm (0.75 kW) motors are supplied as standard, with an optional dual speed (1.8 kW) motor available, together with 90Hz frequency conversion for speeds up to 23,500 rpm. Standard spindle and toolholder options are ER25, ISO30, HSK50, Weldon and ABS50 with an adaptor flange designed for multiple spindle/angle head installation. Other standard options include thro’-spindle cooling, rotating joint, double bearings and type MG15 toolholder ring driver. A slimmed-down Triax 2 module with smaller stroke capacities, particularly suited to retro-fitting on rotary transfer machines, can also be supplied.
