Turbine cooling hole drilling easier with Prima Power releases Laserdyne ShapeSoft feature

Prima Power’s Laserdyne ShapeSoft feature is designed to simplify the creation of programs for producing cone, oblique cone, fan, race-track and other shaped holes in a range of turbine engine components that include blades, nozzle guide vanes and combustors for aero-engine and industrial gas turbine applications.

ShapeSoft is one of the latest features of the Laserdyne S94P control for Laserdyne 795 and 430BD multi-axis laser systems.

The creation of a shaped hole at high speeds with ShapeSoft involves a three-step process: drilling or metering a pilot hole either by trepanning or percussion drilling; machining the shape (for example, cone or fan) to the required depth and dimensions; and machining the metering hole to remove any material that may have accumulated in the hole during the shape machining process.

Parameters that can be specified include the parameter database record, feed rate and dwell time after the shutter is open before processing begins.
