The versatile, modular-design Tongtai TMT2000 series of multi-tasking turning centres are based on a 75º slant bed to which a combination of spindles and turrets can be specified in line with users' application requirements. For example, two turrets with a single Y-axis can be specified right through to three turrets and three Y-axes, explains UK agent Matchmaker CNC.
The Tongtai TMT2000 allows a full range of machining techniques to be applied with balanced cutting from upper and lower turrets through to using the lower turret as either a steady rest or centre. Each turret has 12 positions, all of which can accommodate live tooling, and the machine design allows easy access for tool and insert changes as well as unobstructed swarf removal.
When a Y-axis is specified this is a linear type axis to allow much greater positional accuracy when drilling off-centre holes or milling along the axis when compared to the more familiar simulated Y-axis movements.
All of the machines in the TMT2000 series have a maximum turning diameter of 320 mm, with a maximum swing of 720 mm and turning length of 600 mm. The main spindle power is 15 kW/4,500 rpm (optionally 6,000 rpm) with a bar capacity of 65 mm and a 200 mm chuck as standard. This is supported by a 18.5 kW/6,000 rpm sub-spindle, which also makes use of a 200 mm chuck. Milling capacity is provided by a VDI 40, 5.5 kW/6,000 rpm live tooling spindle.
Over and above the standard configurations, the extensive options list for the TMT 2000 machines includes bar feed; mist extraction/oil skimmer; and a parts catcher/conveyor system.
