Three beam safety device from Leuze electronic

Leuze's range of Multiple Light beam safety Devices (MLD), has an innovative three beam transceiver design, which can replace standard four beam transceivers.

Traditionally, transceivers have been two or four beam units, because the reflecting column works like a periscope, with a mirror reflecting the incoming signal down the inside of the column and then back out to the receiver, from a mirror at the bottom. A four beam system is therefore a two beam system, in the top half of the column, and another two beam system, in the bottom half of the column. Leuze electronic's three beam MLD transceivers use technology from its multi-beam light curtains to precisely switch the two transmission beams so that they can be detected and identified by a single receiver unit, hence reducing costs. The two and three beam transceivers have a range of 8 m, but the both MLD 300 and MLD 500 series include two, three and four beam transmitter and receiver systems, which offer a range of 70 m. The MLD family offers either "Type 2", "SIL 2", performance level "d" protection from the MLD300 range, or "Type 4", "SIL3", "PLe" from MLD500 devices. The MLD range features a bayonet-style swivel mount. These zinc die-castings enable quick alignment and provide reliable mounting. Commissioning or swapping out of the units is fast, because all configuration of the MLD devices is defined by the wiring connections used, so there is no requirement to use a PC or set DIP switches for configuration. Optional extras include an integrated "halo" muting lamp at the top of the column, or integrated laser alignment at the top and bottom of the columns.
