Sumitomo introduces Flat MultiDrill MDF

With newly developed geometry and special thinning of the tool web, Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal’s Flat MultiDrill MDF is said to offer increased rigidity and stiffness. This is particularly useful when trying to overcome ‘push-off’ problems, so allows spot-facing/counterboring and start-drilling to be performed on an inclined or curved surface, as well as at a compound angle or in an interrupted cut cycle.

The Flat MultiDrill MDF coated solid carbide series allows users to perform spot-facing/counterboring operations with tools from 0.3 to 20 mm in diameter with depth-to-diameter ratios of 2:1. In addition, the MDF series can be used for pre-tapping holes in thin sheet material, as well as for cross-drilling applications.

The tool can be applied to a range of materials, such as soft steel and aluminium alloys, alloy steel up to 300 Hb, hardened steel up to 50 HRc, stainless steel, grey cast iron and ductile iron.
