Sumitomo aims BXBR boring bars at sliding-head users

Developed primarily for precision fine boring applications carried out on CNC sliding-head turn-mill centres, the range of SumiSmall BXBR solid carbide, double-ended boring bars from Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has a hole depth capability up to 25 mm – a ratio five times the diameter of the tool shank.

Due to the inherent rigidity of the tool shank, it is said that deflection is minimised and the likelihood of vibration eliminated. What's more, the tool can be used to its full depth, as it is not restricted on overhang from its holder or adaptor.

The BXBR range has shank diameters spanning 2 to 5 mm in 0.5 mm increments. Each is available as standard with or without a chipbreaker and, due to the 10° nose angle, can be used for counterboring or creating a shoulder in a bore with a square corner.
