Sumitomo AC6020M insert is for turning stainless steel at speeds of up to 250 m/min

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has extended the use of its Absotech Platinum Technology (APT) with the launch of AC6020M inserts for turning stainless steel at speeds of up to 250 m/min and where continuous or very light duty interrupted cuts are being used.

Sumitomo’s stress-controlled APT provides extended resistance to chipping that is up to double that achieved by more conventional coated inserts, says the company. Meanwhile, due to its smooth surface and adhesion properties, the likelihood of abnormal damage is reduced.

Sumitomo has also incorporated its latest NEF chipbreaker for use with depths-of-cut between 0.1 and 0.2 mm. The chipbreaker reduces chip curl diameter, thus delivering the advantage of improved chip control – even at low cutting depths. A sharp edge with 20° rake angle further decreases wear factors, while grooves located on the rake face reduce heat and aid the flow of chips from the cutting zone.
