Sumitomo AC-M series inserts suit stainless steel

Newly developed inserts and coatings for turning stainless steels have been released by Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal. Recent developments of Absotech CVD and PVD coating technologies are now incorporated into the latest Sumitomo carbide insert grades AC6030M and AC6040M.

The AC6030M insert incorporates Sumitomo's Absotech Platinum, a newly developed CVD boride-based titanium compound for the outer layer of its five stage, multi-layer coating structure. This higher strength, smooth coating helps to prevent insert chipping, giving a resistance more than double that achieved with conventional coatings, says the company.

AC6040M has the benefit of the Absotech Bronze TiAlSiN coating. This multi-layer PVD coating is said to exhibit excellent heat and oxidation resistance, together with higher adhesion strength and good resistance to peeling-off.

The inserts are available in negative square, triangular, 35° diamond and trigon, while the positive series cover 35°, 55° and 80° diamond, square and triangular types.
