Straight and angle approach grinding from Toyoda

The Select G-100 II universal grinding machine, from Toyoda Machinery, can be quickly changed from 90º straight approach to a 30º angled approach by rotating the wheelhead.

The grinding machine is ideal for small to medium batch business requiring a competitively priced universal precision machine for parts up to 300 mm diameter by 1,000 mm between centres. The machine has a maximum swing of 320 mm and will accept between centres loads of up to 150 kg. The wheel size is 510 by 100 mm wide with 203.2 mm bore which is run at 45 m/sec driven by a 7.5 kW motor. An MT4 centre workhead is driven by a 0.8 kW servo motor that is programmable between 21 and 500 rpm. For higher accuracy requirements the spindle centre can be fixed and the workpiece driven by rotation of the face plate. The workhead can also be swivelled between –30º to +90º. Table stroke is 1,345 mm and is able to be swivelled between 0º and 10º. Rapid feed rate is 10 m/min. Available through 2D CNC Machinery of Rushden, Northants, the grinding machine utilises a STAT hybrid spindle bearing that by combining the benefits of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic technology is said to provide a higher spindle stability than is available with conventional bearing machines. When at rest, the hydrostatic pressure maintains the wheel spindle in the centre of the bearing eliminating any metal to metal contact during rotation, this configuration improves damping and rigidity and absorbs vibration. This enhanced accuracy is maintained throughout the life of the machine with low maintenance requirements.
