Speedio S1000X1 machining centre offers full metre of x-axis travel

Brother's S1000X1, launched at Japan's JIMTOF show in autumn 2014, has been developed to appeal to automotive component manufacturers and others that need to machine larger components. Alternatively, a greater number of smaller components can be fixtured for processing in one cycle, reducing the overall number of tool changes per batch and increasing production efficiency. The machine is available in the UK from dealer Whitehouse Machine Tools (01926 852725).

As the S1000X1's 1,000 mm X-axis travel is the largest in the Speedio range, as is its Y-axis travel, at 500 mm. Like its siblings, it has a 300 mm Z-axis travel, though. Rapid traverse in X and Y is 50 m/min and 56 m/min in Z. Cutting feed in all axes is 3 m/min. Tool-to-tool change is under one second, giving a chip-to-chip time of 1.4 sec. Tool change is performed at the same time as X- and Y-axis movements and, if fitted, rotation of the indexer to reduce idle time. The 30-taper machine's specification includes a maximum table load of 400 kg, a 10,000 rpm spindle with high torque and 16,000 rpm options, and 14 tool stations (optionally 21) in the turret. A new control, CNC C00, provides faster processing, more functions and higher accuracy machining, especially in 3D.
