The 1 sq m footprint Datron C5 is aimed at the precision milling of complex geometries and small workpieces held in a single fixture or clamp. Application areas include medical, scientific instrumentation, aerospace, telecommunications and toolmaking. Workpiece sizes up to 60 mm diameter by 60 mm high, 100 mm diameter by 30 mm high, 96 by 75 by 20 mm or a 50 mm3 can be accommodated.
Low vibration characteristics enable the C5 to achieve excellent surface finish, says Datron. The rotary swivel axis is driven by dynamic torque motors for assured repeatability while maintaining high process reliability.
The 1.8 kW high speed precision spindle supplies the up to 48,000 rpm required by the smallest tools. The C5 features HSK 25E spindle technology, high quality ballscrews and guides with built-in linear scales. High precision and tolerance levels of ±2 microns are achievable. The automatic tool changer has 22 positions and an integrated tool-length sensor.
The C5's fast digital servo control is supported by Windows software facilitates fast setting-up. Average low energy consumption is quoted as less than 2.5 kWh.
