Seibu M50A wire EDM available from CNC International

As a company that claims to have made the worlds' first wire EDM machine in 1972, Seibu is now making its latest M50A available in the UK via CNC International. The machine offers a pitch cutting accuracy of ±3 micron and wire diameter capacity from 0.1 to 0.3 mm.

The M50A provides a workpiece envelope of 800 by 650 by 300 mm (in X, Y and Z) supporting a maximum workpiece payload of 800 kg. The machine's notable innovations include:

  • A core stitch function that means the de-tagging or parting-off process is no longer necessary
  • EL coating, a technology that prevents cobalt from dissolving in water by coating the cutting surface with brass
  • The 'Thermal Adjust 24' feature, which maintains the vertical positioning of the wire by correcting the thermal displacement caused by the temperature change between the upper and lower heads
