Schunk Prismo3 grinding toolholder reduces set-up times

The automated Schunk Prismo3 grinding toolholder is designed for production grinding and tool sharpening. During the clamping process the tool shank is centred automatically in the toolholder. According to Schunk, set-up time is reduced by up to 75% in comparison with conventional multi-area grinding toolholders.

Without the need for collet chucks or intermediate sleeves, the Prismo3 clamps shank diameters between 3 and 20 mm. The repeat clamping accuracy is equal to 0.005 mm, while runout is equal to 0.01 mm at an unclamped length of 45 mm.

The X-axis on Prismo3 toolholders always remains unchanged regardless of tool diameter. This means that all clamping jaws remain in the identical axial position, making it is possible to machine various tools around the clock in unmanned operation without reprogramming the L1 measurement. As a result, the expense of additional programming and the danger of a collision caused by unnoticed axis misalignment are eliminated.
