Schunk introduces slim NSR-A quick-change clamping system for handling pallets and tools

Clamping technology and gripping system company Schunk has developed the NSR-A slim, minimised-contour quick-change module for automatic robotic handling of pallets and tools in confined spaces.

This Schunk NSR-A system allows loading very close to the assembly or machine table. Very low attachments to the clamping station and pallet are feasible and there is enough space for the components and the axis motion. The module can be additionally equipped with a standard Schunk media transfer for pneumatics, electric or fluids. At a dead weight of 1.6 kg (size 160), the NSR-A has a locking force of 14,000 N to provide an exceptionally rigid system. It is suitable for reliable handling of pallets up to 350 kg (measuring 400 by 400 mm) and for the handling of tools. The handling of such an enormous amount of mass is made possible by the locking system with its patented fast stroke and clamping stroke. The unit is form-fit and self-locking. Unlocking can be done with non-oiled air – a 3.5 bar pneumatic system is sufficient. High strength, hard-coated aluminium has been used for parts outside the power flow to achieve an optimum ratio between rigidity, robustness and weight. Parts inside the power flow are made of hardened stainless steel. The module is completely sealed to prevent chips and coolant entering critical parts. Magnetic switches control locking and unlocking. Inductive proximity switches are used to detect the presence of a pallet or a tool. The unit has a repeat accuracy amounts to 0.02 mm.
