Sandvik Coromant drill technology for composites

Sandvik Coromant's CoroDrill 452 is a range of drill geometries for producing rivet and bolt holes in carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) and composite/metallic stack materials.

CFRP has properties that increase the risk for undesirable machining effects such as delamination, splintering or burr formation. Featuring new geometries, the CoroDrill 452 range reduces the risk of these traits, ensuring high tolerance composite holemaking. As well as drills, the range for CFRP includes reamer geometries and a countersink tool with micro-stop for chamfering, while tools for composite/metallic stack materials include drills, drills with pilot, and reamers. The CoroDrill 452 range can be used in fixed bed machine tools as well as portable and hand-held machines, making it particularly suited to the aerospace sector where portability is important.
