Robotic part feeding

Robotic part feeding

Guided Robot Automatic Sorting of Parts (GRASP) uses a fast precise Denso Robot, an integrated, high resolution Cognex Camera and an extremely innovative flex feed system. GRASP uses a vision system to inspect parts, identify their shape and orientate them correctly before a robot places them in the next process. It is unnecessary to use a bowl feeder or fix components in any way so that in some cases an entire machine can be eliminated from the process. No mechanical parts are required to enable quick component changeover and new product developments can therefore be accommodated with minimum disruption to manufacturing or packing operations. GRASP comprises a bulk storage hopper to delivers parts to the start of the process, then a vision system which recognises the location of the parts for the third stage robot. The entire process can operate in less than one second depending upon distance, orientation changes and component weight. Parts up to 70 mm2 and up to 50 g can be handled. The system comes in various forms from a stand-alone machine to a base plate which OEMs can build into their machine or process.
