Renishaw is due to launch a successor to its HS10 long range laser encoder at EMO in September. Like the HS10, the HS20 laser system provides feedback solutions for machine axes up to 60 m in length.
HS20 is presented as a drop-in replacement to minimise installation issues for existing users of the HS10 and HS10X. Inside the design has been totally revised incorporating many proven components from Renishaw's XL-80 calibration laser.
HS20 also provides for external setting of configuration switches and an additional dedicated 24 V power input for installations where there is significant distance between the laser and Renishaw's RC10 real-time quadrature compensator units to avoid the power drop associated with multi-core cables.
Laser encoders bring the precision of laser measurement normally associated with calibration lasers directly to the machine tool. Their measurements are independent of machine thermal expansion.
