Re-introduced Kurt D688 vice has more features than any other in its class

Kurt says that its flagship D688, which will replace its D675 model, will have more features than any other vice in its class. It is also being offered at an 8% price reduction.

The Kurt D688 has the same footprint as the D675 (distance of keyway to stationary jaw is identical) so the two vices can be aligned on a vice table without problems. This allows machinists to phase in the new vice technology without making their existing vices obsolete. The D688 features an 8.8 inch jaw opening and repeatability to within 0.001 inch. It produces up to 7,968 lb clamping force with just 80 ft-lb input torque. This is a 25% increase in jaw capacity and is a 36% greater clamping torque than the D675 – and similar competitor vices, believes Kurt. High precision roller bearings and alloy steel screw mechanism enable the Kurt D688 vices to distribute clamping force evenly and precisely across the full jaw surface. The patented Anglock design in the movable jaw further reduces jaw lift. D688 vices are constructed with porosity-free, 80,000 psi ductile iron bodies providing overall vice rigidity while absorbing machining vibration. Additional features include removable, hardened jaw plates, ergonomically designed vice handle, and GrooveLock workstops that store in the vice body. The Kurt D688 vice is designed for use on the latest machine tools including machining centres and knee-type mills. The D688 is suitable for all types of machining operations including precision boring, tapping, drilling and finishing with high accuracy on most part configurations.
