Positioner Inspection 50 broadens Sick (UK)’s vision sensor range

The Positioner Inspection 50 (PI50) broadens Sick (UK)'s portfolio of vision sensors and uses powerful software tools for guiding complex robotic and machine handling tasks. Advanced part position determination, inspection and quality assurance are facilitated by user-friendly interfaces and versatile machine integration capability.

A polygon tool adds corner and edge position detection and edge condition assessment to the Sick range of inspection software, which includes the object finder, pixel counter, edge pixel counter and pattern detection tools. In addition, expanded functionality allows highly accurate position determination of taught-in and freeform Binary Large Objects (BLOBS) which can cause difficulties for some systems. Precision visual guidance of machines and robots is further improved by image calibration, which generates object positions in millimetres. Optical distortions from short focal length lenses or sloping installations are accurately compensated. Simple system set-up is based on menu-based configuration software. The variety of user interfaces offered include the basic Sick SOPAS tool, the Inspector Viewer direct observation monitor and the integrated web server for operation via a standard Internet web browser. Individual human-machine interface design is available using the Web API. Flexible integration with machine requirements is assured through adaptable connectivity options, with digital I/O enabling a range of functions, and compatibility with Internet protocols for Ethernet, TCP and UDP. The Inspector PI50 has a robust, compact housing incorporating integrated LED illumination. A comprehensive selection of lenses, colour filters and light transmitters are offered, including infra-red annular illumination for high contrast, highly coloured or variable ambient light tasks.
