Polygon-Shank toolholders launched by Sumitomo

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has launched a series of high rigidity Polygon-Shank toolholders that accommodate both negative and positive insert types. The range also offers the benefit of hardened shank and insert seating, thus giving extended life to the toolholder.

The Polygon-Shank series covers general turning, copying and facing on both turn-mill machines and machining centres. Its design incorporates high stiffness, whereby the conical polygon shape can accommodate high orders of bending and torque moments, with these further enhanced by face contact with the spindle, says Sumitomo.

The self-guiding coupling of the monoblock system offers repeatability within ±2 micron in the X, Y and Z axes, while head diameter to length ratios are 40 by 50 mm and 50 by 60 mm, with the exception of a DNMG negative style insert which is 40 by 55 mm and 50 by 60 mm.
