On-machine measurement enhanced

The latest version of Renishaw's OMV Pro software, a powerful package that works with touch probes to give advanced on-machine part verification and machine simulation capabilities, now boasts more advanced features.

These are: co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) style capability with an extended range of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) functionality, plus the ability to work with multiple alignments in a single program, useful for users of complex multi-axis machine tools. Like the more basic Renishaw OMV software, the new Renishaw OMV Pro 2.02 allows users of machine tool touch probes to quickly verify the accuracy of free-form and prismatic parts, without ever moving the part from the machine-bed. A key difference between Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro is the latter's ability to handle the measurement of geometric components with its geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) wizard. This function helps users through the process of creating standardised report elements based on internationally-recognised symbols. Users can fully compare part measurement results taken on the machine to the manufacturing drawing, before removing the part from the machine and submitting it to a full off-machine inspection process. Within the new version GD&T functionality now includes perpendicularity, parallelism, angularity, linear dimension, surface profile, line profile and concentricity. Other improvements include: the ability to use two or more alignments in a program, which is a significant benefit to users working with components on multi-axis machines or with large or flexible components; within the multi-axis module, an 'Auto Orient' function that allows the touch probe to be automatically oriented into a suitable position for measuring features, without requiring the user to manually input the required angle; and graphical and numerical reporting is configurable, allowing feature parameters to be toleranced and displayed.
