Olmec tailors in-line QS and QS+ inspection systems to applications

Vision systems integrator Olmec has introduced the QS and QS+ turnkey, self-contained vision inspection systems as part of its Quality Station range. The 1.2 by 0.7 m footprint units have been designed for in-line inspection and feature integral transport and reject mechanisms. They can be used on their own or in conjunction with other quality inspection tools such as check-weighers.

Both the QS and QS+ can accommodate items up to 300 by 300 by 500 mm in size and weighing up to 6 kg weight at rates up to 60 m/minute. The QS is designed to inspect either from the top or the sides, while the QS+ also allows inspection of the underside. QS and QS+ systems are delivered fully configured and tested for the end-users' specific application and are equipped with appropriate camera(s), lighting and reject mechanism as well as all the inspection tools required. Rigorous and fully documented off-line testing and acceptance programs are carried out prior to installation. Typical applications for the QS include checking for product assembly completeness, colour or defect analysis, as well as label inspection. Label inspection includes full 1D and 2D codes code reading capabilities with character verification and even the ability to make calculations from data read from the label. This, for example, will check that for a given unit price, the package price label is correct for the weight or volume. The QS+ is capable of all of the above inspections, but it can also inspect product from below as well, allowing, for example, labels on the bottom of a product to be read and checked for conformity with other labels on the product. Comprehensive communication links allow integration into the customer's production lines as well as providing remote connectivity for fast diagnostics. An intuitive user interface makes the systems easy to operate.
