NTK’s Bimedic JP2 turning grade suits Inconel

Designed for the finish-machining of Inconel, the new JP2 turning grade is capable of machining at 15 times the speed of high end carbide insert grades, the company says. JP2 is a proprietary grade of Bimedics from NTK – a composite cutting tool material developed for machining HRSA materials.

The JP2 series of coated multi-tipped brazed inserts can run at surface speeds in excess of 500 m/min, says NTK. Suitable for machining at cutting depths of 0.1 to 3 mm on materials such as Inconel, Rene, Waspalloy, Hastalloy and 718 stainless steel, the inserts extend both productivity and tool life by a factor of four, claims NTK. This is credit to a TiN-coated insert that has a strong brazing to withstand high temperatures during machining.

The JP2 is available in a host of insert sizes and geometries to correspond with existing toolholders from the NTK catalogue.
