New coating for drill inserts boost tool life

KC7815 is a CVD grade for drilling with indexable inserts. It achieves tool-life improvements of up to 100 per cent. As this cutting grade is based on a wear-resistant substrate able to resist high temperatures, cutting speeds can also be enhanced significantly. The polished surface with a 12 µm thick MT-CVD TiCN-Al2O3 coating improves the chip flow and prevents the formation of built-up edges. The new cutting material is suitable for drilling and countersinking applications in standard and custom tooling solutions with Drill-Fix DFR and Drill-Fix DFT. It can be used for all kinds of steel and cast iron.
