Each MPT is supplied from stock in two ranges (five styles each for both medium and high pressure systems) to suit port diameters from ¼" to 1".
Autoclave ports are produced traditionally in a multi-drilling sequence – often using brazed carbide-tipped tools – beginning with the production of a small pilot hole, then a multi-drilling process before being thread milled.
The conventional multi-drilling sequence can often mean that each tool takes up to 45 minutes to qualify – four tools occupying around three hours. The use of just one MPT tool, on the other hand, slashes that to just minutes, says Marlor. And with spiral flutes and geometries, the port is rough and finish machined to a consistent surface finish in one hit.
