Mapal’s CPMill ballnose cutters suit homokinetic joints

The latest CPMill ballnose cutters from Mapal are targetted at the production of hardened homokinetic steel joints used in the automotive industry.

Newly developed, highly spiralled geometry is said to ensure optimal chip removal, while instead of four cutting edges, the solid carbide ballnose milling cutter has five. Furthermore, in addition to the base substrate, the coating has also been improved.

For easy changing of the milling heads, the cutters are equipped with the CFS interface. Another innovation is that the precise tuning of the taper and face means concentricity equal to 5 micron is achieved.

In trials, Mapal has witnessed an increase in weekly machined output of 12% as it is possible to work with higher cutting and feed rates. In addition, the milling cutter has a 25% higher service life than the previous model. CPMill ball nose milling cutters are available in diameters 8-25 mm.
