Mapal OptiMill-Uni-HPC-Pocket milling cutter eliminates need for ramping or pilot bore creation

To eliminate the need for time-consuming ramping or pilot bore creation when milling pockets, Mapal has developed the solid carbide OptiMill-Uni-HPC-Pocket milling cutter.

Suitable for steel, stainless steel and cast iron, the milling cutter has a unique face geometry that boasts an integrated drill tip. This geometry makes the milling cutter suitable for angled entry at up to 45°, for helix milling and even grooving.

Available in diameter range 5.7 to 20 mm, the OptiMill-Uni-HPC-Pocket is offered in ‘long’ and ‘overlong’ options, and with cylindrical shank form HB.

With the OptiMill-Uni-HPC-Pocket, a pilot bore, and hence tool changing, can be eliminated during the machining of pockets, meaning that. Closed contours are reliably machined with just one tool, and at axial depths of cut (ap) of up to 2xD.

The specially developed point thinning together with three large chip flutes guarantee an optimum discharge of chips, practically eliminating chip congestion. The special cutting edge preparation in conjunction with a wear-resistant coating and ductile carbide substrate also ensure long tool life.
