Manual adjustment of cutting inserts to compensate for wear is not necessary, because for each individual application cutting edges are measured directly in the machining centre with an integrated measuring rod (or externally), and the actual value entered into the CNC. Cutting edges can be readjusted, compensating automatically for the determined wear.
Mapal line boring bars offer compensation-enabled edges
Line boring bars make the fine machining of crankshaft bearing journals on a machining centre more economical. And to allow for the simultaneous machining of all the separators of the crankshaft bearing lanes in one pulling cut, the cutting edges on Mapal’s latest line boring bars retract into the tool’s storage slots via an inner tie-rod. Without the control of the cutting edge, a collision of the workpiece and the cutting edge upon retraction would be inevitable.
