Makino introduces smaller 5-axis MAG model

Makino (through NCMT) has introduced a new, 5-axis, horizontal machining centre, which extends the productivity benefits and cost savings of its MAG range of high speed aluminium profilers to smaller size components.

Called MAG1, the machine is particularly suited to producing wing parts, such as leading edges, trailing edges and ribs, within a working envelope of 1,500 by 1,100 by 1,350 mm. Over150 MAG machines have been sold since the first model was introduced five years ago. The latest machine provides a less expensive option with a smaller footprint to customers that produce components less than 1.5 m long and weighing up to 1,300 kg. MAG1 has a 33,000 rpm, 80 kW, HSK80 spindle designed to access deep pockets that many other machines cannot reach. The swivelling spindle (A-axis) rotates between ± 110°, while the B-axis is provided by a 360° rotary table to provide fully interpolative 5-axis roughing and finishing.
