LMT expands Easytec grooving and part-off range for hard materials

LMT's newly-developed, toughened, sub-micron grade of coated insert expands its Easytec range of grooving, groove-turning and parting tools for high performance machining of super alloys, stainless steels, alloyed cast irons and non-alloyed cast irons.

Designated LC432T the grade has a three micron TiAIN-PVD coating to extend cutting life, provide added security against plastic deformation and the formation of built-up edge. The Easytec range of inserts and modular toolholders, developed by LMT's Boehlerit Advanced Coating and Insert Division, provides a wide range of machining solutions by including in the Easytec portfolio high performance, ceramic, cemet and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) grades. Inserts are available for parting-off, external, internal and face grooving, copy turning/profiling and shoulder undercuts with a choice of straight or round cutting edges. Inserts can be direct pressed within +0.1 mm or available in ground condition to a tolerance of +0.025 mm. Double ended versions are also available. A recent trial on a Miyano turn-mill centre producing ball bearing roll forms in 23HRC-100 Cr6 steel, the LMT grooving tool was run at 230 m/min. This speed was 10 m/min faster than the existing tool. The LMT tool produced 100 additional components extending the tool life to cover 650 parts. A further trial involving interrupted cuts on P10 low alloyed steel tubing and run at the existing speeds and feeds showed the LMT Easytec inserts increased the life of the grooving tool from 354 to 500 parts. Full details of the Easytec range can be found in a 74 page brochure from LMT UK of Meriden.
