Kyocera releases TN620 and PV720 cermet grades

TN620 and PV720 cermet grades for steel processing offer 50% better abrasion resistance and fracture resistance than do conventional grades used as cutting tool inserts, says Kyocera.

The inserts employ proprietary material technologies, such as: a specially structured surface hardening technique that distributes ultra-fine particles within the cermet in a more optimal manner; a bonded phase, including a special metal phase with high melting points; and a hard phase with what Kyocera describes as superior compressive stress effects for better fracture resistance.

PV720 builds on the properties of TN620 by adding MegaCoat Nano, a multi-layer coating technology never before applied to a cermet. The coating is said to offer abrasion and oxidation resistance for higher efficiency machining and produces a superior surface finish.
