Kennametal aims Beyond KN15’s polished surface and novel point angle at aluminium drilling
Kennametal's Beyond HPS solid carbide drill for aluminium features fine grain carbide and novel point geometry for superior metal removal rates and extended tool life without the cost premium associated with PCD drills.
Aimed as such cost-sensitve applications as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, gear boxes, suspension parts, and many other critical automotive components, the Kennametal says Beyond KN15's highly polished surface reduces friction on flutes, margins, and cutting edges to facilitate chip evacuation, even in minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) processes.
The design features a proprietary 135º high performance drill point designed for excellent centring and improved feeds, and sharp cutting edges supporting low cutting forces and extended tool life. An enlarged spiral flute design further speeds chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces.
Diameters range from 3 to 20 mm and lengths of 3XD and 5XD (through-coolant). Inch, metric, fractions, and tapping sizes are also available.
