High rigidity bridge-type vertical machining centre series

High rigidity bridge-type vertical machining centre series

A series of 12 ultra-heavy duty, 3-axis bridge-type vertical machining centres are constructed to give a 50 per cent improved stability around the spindle head slideway. Developed for mould and die and large casting and fabrication machining, the SDV-H series machines have table sizes up to 5 by 2.7 m, 20 tonne capacity and travels up to 5.2, 2.9 and 0.760 m in X, Y and Z respectively (with a 1 m Z option). Central to the high metal removal capability is the patented construction of the Y-axis cross beam and Z-axis spindle slide arrangement that enables a spindle centre line to the heavy duty SRG 65 roller-type linear ways to be within 355 mm. An extra wide span between two linear ways on the Y-axis of 400 mm and four SRG 45 roller type linear ways on the vertical Z-axis add to the increased rigidity, stability and vibration-free heavy cutting and improved surface finish capability of the machines. The structural components of the table, box columns and ladder-design of beam are produced from Meehanite cast iron with heavy rib reinforcement. The up to 5.2 m X-axis provides total support to the large table without any overhang in order to accommodate loadings of up to 20 tonnes. With the linear bearing arrangement, rapid traverse rates in X and Y are 10 m/min and 15 m/min in Z on the largest SDV 5229H machine to maintain a positioning accuracy of ±0.005 mm.
