High performance machining of steel

High performance machining of steel

For , NTK has now launched two new Cermet grades that break the barriers of conventional steel machining. The C7X and C7Z have both been developed to provide exceptional wear resistance and improved adhesion resistance for general steel machining operations. The PVD TiN coated Cermet C7Z insert is particularly resistant to built up edges as its coating promotes the smooth flow of swarf away from the cutting edge. This gives the end user an insert with increased wear resistance and improved performance that enables the C7Z to maintain its component dimensions for longer periods of machining that result in reduced machining offsets. Both the C7X and C7Z Cermet grades promote excellent surface finish, extended tool life and outstanding swarf control – all whilst machining at significantly higher cutting speeds than carbide cutting tools. The new inserts provide stable cutting performance for semi and finish machining applications regardless of running wet or dry machining. This stability is provided by alloy binders that deliver excellent wear and thermal shock resistance and fracture toughness. These attributes provide the end user with inserts that are capable of performing limited roughing applications through to finish machining as well as interrupted cutting. This wide range of machining applications is provided by the thermal shock resistance that reduces chipping and tool breakages considerably. This combination gives the end user extended tool life and thus superior confidence in cutting tool performance. The C7Z and C7X are ideal for semi finish and finish machining of steel and bearing materials with the vast range of inserts making the new grades applicable for grooving and turning applications. The new grades are available with 80, 55 and 35 degree rhombic positive type insert with 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 mm radius to meet the end users numerous turning requirements.
