Henkel's bactericide-free cutting fluids

Henkel's Multan 71-2 and 77-4 are two water-miscible, bactericide-free cutting fluids that reduce health risks to employees and preempt prospective EU Biocides Regulations.

The products incorporate a new technology that prevents bacteria from absorbing nutrients from the degradation of emulsifiers, which normally occurs once a certain minimum bacteria concentration has been reached. General purpose Multan 71-2 is multifunctional, and because of its high lubricity is suitable for all types of machining, including grinding. For high-alloy steel and aluminium machining, special purpose Multan 77-4 provides extremely high lubricity even at low concentration. This product is especially suitable for centreless grinding. "Unlike previous technologies, the formula of the new products avoids hazardous bacterial growth which usually occurs during the use of cutting fluids," explained Colin Chapman, marketing manager at Henkel. "Just as important, this is accomplished without any toxic bactericidal additives and without sacrificing the quality and performance of the products." Neither product contains formaldehyde releasing agents and both are odourless as well as having a low drag-out rate because the finely dispersed emulsion runs off the machined parts quickly.
