General purpose turning grade released by Ceratizit

’Cutting Solutions by Ceratizit’, a product brand of Team Cutting Tools, has introduced its latest grade for turning, CTPX710, which is set to reform insert choice for customers. Developed as a multi-application grade utilising newly developed coating technology and the latest carbide substrate, CTPX710 now means one grade can be used across many material groups, from super alloys to general steels and non-ferrous materials. The result is reduced tool inventories and simplified tool changing for machine operators; only the insert geometry changes to suit specific materials, the grade remains the same.

CTPX710 is a partnership between the carbide substrate and the latest Dragonskin coating technology, which are then enhanced by a secondary finishing process after coating. The substrate is a fine-grain carbide with an optimised microstructure that provides a hard, wear-resistant base on to which the Dragonskin coating is applied. For CTPX710 inserts the coating thickness has been increased, which provides an additional damping/shock absorbing effect for further substrate protection. During manufacture, once the coating has been applied, the inserts are subject to a further finishing process to create the smoothest surface possible across the insert geometry, thus enhancing chip flow. It is this combination that enables CTPX710 to be applied across such a diverse range of materials, while delivering improved cutting performance and process security, says the company.

“The arrival of CTPX710 means that customers only need one grade of carbide to cover the vast majority of the work they will be undertaking,” confirms Adrian Fitts, business development manager at Ceratizit UK & Ireland. “This is especially important for the large numbers of small to medium sized subcontract machine shops that take on a diverse range of work; they can now reduce tool inventories in the knowledge that they have an insert grade that will handle all of the materials they may face. While the all-round performance of CTPX710 is unquestionable, we are finding it delivers excellent results when machining stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and super alloys.”

CTPX710 inserts are available in a variety of standard ISO insert shapes with three insert geometries, including -M34, which is aimed at turning super alloys due to the low cutting forces it generates, along with its resistance to built-up edges. For non-ferrous materials, steels and cast iron there are two available geometries, -25P and -25Q, the former having a sharp cutting edge providing good swarf control on softer materials, and the latter featuring wiper technology to deliver higher feed rates and improved surface finish.

As with all tools from the Team Cutting Tools product brands, the inserts are available ex-stock with guaranteed next-day delivery before noon when ordered up to 18:30 the previous day.
