Floyd inserts for intricate machining

Swiss tooling specialist Applitec has now extended its ISO Line of cutting tools to incorporate a 35º series of inserts and holders.

Available from Floyd Automatic Tooling, the new range of inserts and holders is ideal for intricate and highly accurate machining applications. Like all products in the Applitec ISO-Line, the cutter bodies are available in sizes from 8 by 8 to 20 by 20 mm in 2 mm increments, and can be ordered as left or right hand with a neutral series also an option. The ISO-Line has two left and right hand cutter body designations available with an additional two bodies specifically for back turning and form machining. This makes the 35º ISO-Line from Applitec a universal cutting tool suitable for all intricate turning operations. Expanding upon its universal attributes, this new ISO-Line enables customers to conduct back and front machining with a cutter design that allows both cutting edges on the insert to be utilised. This can reduce machining cycle times, set-up times and it also allows the customer to use the new Applitec 35º cutter as a universal tool for a multitude of processes. The inserts are available in two sizes with a cutting face length of 11 mm and an actual cutting length of 7 mm. Insert radius options are: 0.03; 0.08; 0.1 or 0.2. The inserts have a wiper effect that is said to deliver impeccable surface finishes and remarkable chip control. The inserts are available in Applitec's TiAlN, TiN and TMax micro grain grades with a PVD coating. This enables the new offering to machine a universal range of materials that includes free cutting steels and aluminium. For the machining of medical or aerospace grade materials such as titanium and inconel or additional materials that create high temperatures when machining, Applitec has developed its uncoated inserts that are available in its specialised K10 and K20 grades.
