Fein develops KS 10-38 E grinder for difficult-to-reach fillet welds

Fein is extending its stainless steel range to include a powerful fillet weld grinder for difficult to reach spots. The KS 10-38 E has been developed to meet the niche application requirements of specialist interior craftsmen and tank, ship and vehicle builders.

Fillet welds occur when two metal work pieces are welded together at an angle. The Fein KS 10-38 E's head, which is 33 mm long, can be smoothly swivelled through 180° and fixed to the neck of the machine without the need for additional tools. This shortens the overall length of the machine and even makes work on corners and work offset to the side possible without damaging neighbouring surfaces. The spark hood can be adjusted or removed entirely as appropriate. Fein has built in a number of features aimed at ease of maintenance and durability, including the belt tensioning system which safeguards tool and drive life. The clamping fixture, which is designed to ensure optimum transfer of force, also helps to preserve the drive belt. Meanwhile, the patent-pending spindle lock permits fleece discs to be changed without putting strain on the clamping belt. The Fein KS 10-38 E's 800W motor, which has permanent overload capacity, enables work to proceed fast on long welds. Double gear reduction delivers a very high torque. The speed range can be electronically adjusted between 1,350 and 3,750 rpm. Even when subjected to continuous use, neither the machine nor the head will overheat, states Fein, allowing for safe working and avoiding unnecessary interruptions. The Fein KS 10-38 E fillet weld grinder is supplied in a plastic case with two medium and two fine 150 mm diameter fleece discs (one 3 mm thick, the other 6 mm thick) and one disc profiling stone. Fleece discs are available for various applications. Coarse fleece discs are suitable for descaling fillet welds and for removing scratches. Medium discs smooth and grind fillet welds. Fine discs harmonise contours, remove tarnishing and deliver a satin-finish, while very fine fleece discs prepare fillet welds for polishing. Meanwhile, Fein felt discs and polishing pastes allow you to polish fillet welds to a mirror polish.
