Fanuc boosts Robodrill a-DiA range torque and accuracy specifications

Fanuc UK has announced the latest evolution of its Robodrill a-DiA vertical machining centre range which now offers standard and high power spindle versions and an improved accuracy specification.

The high power version of the Robodrill provides a maximum spindle speed of up to 10,000 rpm, specified as 80 Nm torque and 14 kW. Acceleration and speed are also improved with a 26 kW/24,000 rpm spindle speed – more than double that of the standard version. The a-DiA series now incorporates Fanuc's Servo HRV control which uses high resolution encoders and spindle control to resolve to nano levels for higher surface quality and improved concentricity. AI thermal displacement compensation compensates for thermal growth in real time by monitoring the operational status of the spindle and estimating elongation along each axis. Robodrill is designed for 24/7 high duty cycles. A wall coolant option in the chip discharging system now prevents chips adhering to the enclosure. Flood coolant has also been enhanced and the splash guard has been redesigned to reduce chip accumulation. The three machine sizes in the all-electric/zero hydraulics range are defined by the size of the X-axis stroke (work table length) and tool turrets are available as 14 and 21 stations. Fanuc's advanced CNC 31 i-B control system helps to shorten cycle times by achieving both high speed and high precision through accurate control of maximum acceleration of the spindle motor. Fanuc's direct drive zero backlash linear motor DDR 4th axis rotary table eliminates positioning waiting time. A DDR-T option is available which combines a tailstock for fast turnover positioning requirements.
