ESAB launches iSeries automated plasma power sources

ESAB has introduced its iSeries range of power sources for automated plasma cutting. Featuring the company’s HeavyCut technology to improve cut quality and precision, the iSeries enables parts to go directly from the cutting table to welding, painting or assembly, without requiring secondary operations, says ESAB. The new unit also provides piercing capacity up to 50 mm at 400 A on all materials, including stainless steel and aluminium.

According to ESAB, the iSeries delivers ISO Class 3 or better cuts, reducing bevel and the need for post-cut finishing.

The water-mist secondary (WMS) process, which incorporates nitrogen as the plasma gas and ordinary tap water for shielding, is said to produce superior cut quality and a lower cost per cut on non-ferrous materials. On stainless steel, the WMS process cuts up to 300% faster and lowers cost-per cut by 20% or more, compared with systems that use argon-hydrogen, says the company.
