EOS M 290 supersedes M 280 for metal-based AM

EOS has launched its M 290 with a build volume of 250 x 250 x 325 mm to succeed the M 280 for the additive manufacturing (AM) of components from successive layers of metal powder fused by laser.

The key elements of its predecessor have been retained, including process chamber, gas stream and process parameters, however, with a nod to the aerospace and medical industries, the EOS M 290 (with 400 W laser) offers extensive monitoring functions both for the system itself and the build process. With the aid of EOSTATE PowderBed, a camera built into the process chamber monitors powder deposition and exposure to the laser beam by means of still images, while EOSTATE Base ensures consistent monitoring of parameters that include the position of the laser scanner in the Z-axis, air humidity, temperature and pressure. Finally, EOSTATE LaserMonitoring measures laser power.
