Edgecam 2016 R2 faster at loading models

The 2016 R2 version of Edgecam CAM software for milling, turning and wire EDM is said to offer time savings when loading solid model part files. During trials, files loaded around 20 times faster, chiefly because less time is taken opening files due to ‘tessellation.’ This sees Edgecam break the model down into triangles, which are then stored in such a way that they can be read back faster than before.

Further improvements include:

  • 64-bit capability, improving access to memory;
  • Full support for rotary heads found on Trevisan-type machine tools;
  • Support for nutating heads on mill-turn machines using Fanuc, Siemens and Heidenhain controls;
  • The rough grooving cycle no longer requires the manual addition of radius compensation;
  • The ‘move’ command now supports rotary axis positioning in wire EDM;
  • In the 5-axis cycle, the multi-blade machining module now features additional collision check options.
