Dormer Pramet extends face-mills for stainless steel

Dormer Pramet has added larger diameter cutters and inserts for greater depths of cut to its face milling range for stainless steel.

These latest tools employ the octagonal OEHT 09 inserts, said to be suitable for unstable conditions and machining fragile components in stainless steels and soft steels with depths of cut up to 5 mm. The tool can be used for both roughing and finishing operations.

In a recent product test, machining a steel workpiece (3,900 by 3,200 mm) with coolant, OEHT inserts performed the roughing and finishing operation in 52 minutes. A competitor tool performed the same task (in the same conditions) in 252 minutes, with roughing and finishing operations completed separately.

A range of round inserts, REHT 24, for face and copy milling, and XEHT 09 wiper inserts, add to the insert options available.
