Dentaurum and Concept Laser complete certification for manufacture of titanium dental implants by LaserCusing systems

Dentaurum, manufacturer of Rematitan CL, and Concept Laser, manufacturer of LaserCusing systems, have successfully completed the certification process for former's titanium alloy powder to be used with latter's generative laser melting process.

The Grade 5 titanium alloy has been used in dental prosthetics and implantology for many years. Rematitan CL complies with DIN EN ISO 9693 / DIN EN ISO 22674 and supplements the available spectrum of cobalt-chromium alloys. Pulverised alloy manufacturer Dentaurum says that additional dental restoration applications will now be possible. The mechanical properties of Rematitan CL are comparable to cobalt-chromium alloys. However, its elastic modulus is half that of cobalt-chromium. Because of its material properties, Rematitan CL requires the framework design to be specific to precious metals. The very fine-grained microstructure exhibited in the laser-melted titanium alloy allows greater firmness than with conventional castings. The generative structure also allows for secure durable veneers. Surface defects associated with casting, such as shrink holes, are not a problem with the laser melting process. Moreover, the technique opens up new possibilities for dental technicians and dentists in terms of accuracy, geometrical freedom and finer braces. Prosthetic restorations can be essentially ready 'overnight'. The LaserCusing process makes it economic to produce crown copings, bridges, cast parts, as well as primary and secondary structures from pulverised titanium alloy. In addition to mechanical equipment, the alloy powder used is essential for a high quality prosthetic framework. The composition, powder form, grain size and grain size distribution determine the quality and precision of the parts produced. The Grade 5 titanium alloy (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 22674) is intended for restorations requiring a combination of high rigidity and firmness, eg, thin, removable partial prosthetics; parts with thin cross-sections or braces. Products manufactured using this process comply with the German Medical Products Act and the relevant DIN EN ISO 9693 and DIN EN ISO 22674 standards. Certificates to this effect are provided to users with the Rematitan CL alloy.
